Custom Radon Solutions for Any Space

The following is a description of a typical radon remediation system in a home. Systems in apartments are similar except that we normally penetrate the sub-slab from the outside through the footing. For the schools, older homes and larger office buildings, more penetrations, larger fans, larger pipe or more systems are often needed.

  • Polyurethane or urethane caulking of the slab/wall joint around all outside walls and any pipe penetrations where accessible such as in unfinished areas.
  • Hammer-drilling a 3" or 4” diameter hole completely through the slab.
  • Digging out a void and cleaning out all loose debris with a shop-vac
  • Inserting a 3” diameter PVC pipe in the slab penetration so that the bottom of the PVC is flush with the hase of the slab and sealing around the PVC with the urethane or polyurethane caulk.
  • Running the PVC line up to the ceiling and through the wall to the outside with a PVC “T” from the main pipe into the adjacent block wall if needed.
  • Installation of a pressure gauge at eye level to monitor the fan operation.
  • Installation of in-line radon exhaust fan at ground level outside in an unobtrusive location.
  • Continuation up an outside corner with matching downspout to above the roofline with flush screened insert to block debris while allowing airflow.
  • Installation of a sealed sump cover and polymer sheet sealing and venting of crawl spaces when needed.

In some cases the system can be routed through a garage with the fan in the garage attic (A) or through inside areas such as closets with the fan in the attic (B). In schools the pipes are routed straight up against an inside wall with the fans mounted on the roofs.
